Does one need a tablet PC?

Tablet PC's are in vogue for sure nowadays thanks to the popularity of iPad.

A tablet PC is great for reading and Internet browsing by design - light weight, long battery life, wireless connection.  The buzz of tablet PC's may give people the impression that most people are flocking to them.  A recent Pew survey shows that the tablet PC's prevalence rate is about 5%. All of the tablet PC owners probably also own other computing devices such as PC's and smartphones. Another survey shows that the web browsing done by tablet PC's, which it is primarily designed for, is well below 10%.

I am yet to find a reason to justify the purchase of a tablet PC. I have 6 computers including 2 laptops,  and a Windows Phone 7 smartphone.  I do not see any need to use a tablet PC at home.  The only scenario for me to find a tablet PC useful is traveling.  I always bring my smartphone and a laptop when traveling.  Inserting a tablet PC to my laptop case is no big deal because it is light and thin.  I tend to take notes and write a lot while reading.  I doubt that I can write with a tablet PC nearly as fast as a laptop  I can see the benefits of using a tablet when waiting in a long line, or at a table in a restaurant. However, this occasional usage cannot justify the purchase and carrying of a tablet PC.

I will continue to wait and see what additional benefits a tablet PC can bring me.
