Eighteen passers-by watch a dying 2-year old girl without offering any help
This is real, and it happened in one of the most prosperous cities of P.R.China
A 2-year old girl wandered onto a road at 15:52 on 2011-10-13 in the city of Foshan, Guangzhou, P.R.China. A minivan hit her with its right front wheel. Every following event reveals how much the basic moral values have deteriorated in Mainland China.
First, the minivan was decelerated by hitting this toddler, and then was stopped by the dying girl when its right rear wheel hit her. The driver accelerated to hit the girl for the third time, and ran over her again.
Three passers-by including a witness of the hit-and-run walked away without any sign of sympathy.
A truck came and ran over the dying girl with both of its front and rear right wheels.
After the second hit-and-run, more than 10 passers-by came and left showing no feeling except some minor curiosity in the following 7 minutes.
A trash-picking lady saw this girl, moved her to a safer spot, and then yelled for help finally.
The minivan driver told the world unequivocally how cold-blooded he is by running over the girl again with the rear wheel after hitting her with the front one.
This is not a conspiracy. Eighteen passers-by revealed independently 18 times how much conscience the people in Mainland China have lost under the current totalitarian regime.
Some suggest that the passers-by were afraid of being wrongly sued if trying to help. I do not believe making an emergency call (#110 or #120) would have any chance of being incriminated. None of the 18 passers-by made such a call.
How many countries can such event happen in? Probably very few. I would not conclude that this is typical in Mainland China. The widespread outrage showed the strong disapproval of the passers-by. However, this is not uncommon. Even only 10% of dying people on streets not receiving help from passers-by is too much.
Why have the moral values deteriorated so much in Mainland China? Unfortunately, this is bound to happen under the current totalitarian regime of the CCP. The CCP has always claimed it represents the finest of the Chinese, and is the moral authority. It suppresses any competing voice threatening its grip of power. However, most Chinese people know this “moral authority” is an institution liar running one of the most corrupted governments in history. Bribery is must for doing business in P.R.China, even military ranks are bought. Teachers in once sacred academic institutions, who used to be called the “engineers of human souls”, demand money or bedding with students for admission or other favors.
Fortunately, there are Taiwan, Hong Kong and Singapore as a reference to show that Chinese are not inherently cold-blooded. To the contrary, traditional Chinese culture values kindness, compassion, fairness, respect …
The day will come when the finest of Chinese culture will be restored, and Chinese people will be free of any hypocritical “moral authority”.
