NFC and digital cameras

For those who appreciate the usefulness of shutter cable, controlling a digital camera via a smartphone is an exciting relatively new feature of digital cameras. This is done via WiFi. The common problem with this feature is the hassle of establishing connection between the camera and the smartphone.  Fortunately, Near Field Communication (NFC) has made this much easier. It has essentially made it touch & play.  More and more smartphones have the NFC feature. Only a small portion of digital cameras have both WiFi and NFC.

Since the “WiFi shutter cable” requires a smartphone app, one should make sure there is an app for his smartphone.  Right now, Sony is the only digital camera manufacturers providing an API for third-party developers.  This is a very smart move on the Sony side. Only a small portion of Sony’s digital cameras support this API.  I hope they will widen the supporting cameras.

Unfortunately, at present there is no camera meeting the following requirements:

  1. Wi-Fi
  2. NFC
  3. With supporting Wi-Fi API
  4. Super zoom (i.e. zoom > 20x)
  5. GPS
  6. Compact
