Ten thorny issues facing the Chinese regime
A reader's comment on an article on chinaelections.org is intriguing. Here is the translation:
- Taiwan issue. Being soft does not help, but taking a hard line is feared to trigger US actions.
- South China Sea issue. Talk does not solve the problem, but fight is feared to bring the US interference.
- Corruption issue. The nation would collapse without solving it, but solving it would kill the CCP.
- Dictatorship issue. Continuing it will worsen the corruption, but the CCP would die without the dictatorship.
- Wealth disparity issue. Poor people are feared to revolt without solving it, but the rich would not allow solving it.
- Housing issue. High prices deprive the poor of the chance to own homes, but low prices would cause problems for the regime's economic control.
- Local "Great Leap" issue. Continuing it will cause economic overheating, but the regime would not be able to amass its wealth without it.
- Inflation issue. Controlling the money supply would hurt GDP growth, but increasing it would make people revolt .
- Dual pension system issue. There is no money for increasing the pension of retired employees of businesses, but reducing the pension of government employees would make them revolt.
- Government credibility issue. Merits are not believed, but flaws are exaggerated. There is no credibility anyway.
